2021 Sierra vs. 2021 Tundra

When you’re comparing full-size trucks, you’ll see a lot of similarities across the segment; they all offer hefty towing and hauling capabilities, impressive safety technology, and plenty of amenities and technology to keep you comfortable each time you’re behind the wheel. However, the differences between full-size trucks really sets them apart, as is the case between the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 and the 2021 Tundra. If you’re trying to choose between these two fierce competitors, read this comparison of their key features.

Performance and Capabilities

The base engine of the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 is a 285-horsepower V6 with 305 pound-feet of torque; a 355-horsepower V8, a 420-horsepower V8, and a diesel that gets 460 pound-feet of torque are also available options. When properly equipped, the Sierra 1500 can tow up to 12,200 pounds with a payload capacity up to 2,240 pounds.

The Tundra’s only engine choice is a 381-horsepower V8 with 401 pound-feet of torque, and though it’s more powerful than the Sierra’s base engine, it’s the only option you have in the entire Tundra lineup where the Sierra has multiple options for a more customized experience. Additionally, the Tundra is only rated to pull up to 10,200 pounds.

Interior and Value Review

Not only does the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 have a higher-quality interior, it also has a much lower starting price than the Tundra. Both trucks come standard with Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto, and Wi-Fi hotspots to keep you connected while you’re on the go. The Sierra 1500 beats the Tundra out for interior space in many measurements, offering more headspace and legroom across the board. You’ll find that better materials are used throughout the GMC Sierra 1500 trim levels in comparison with the Tundra which offers a much more rough-and-tumble appearance.

Safety Features

You’ll find a collection of safety features in both trucks, including a few standard features in each truck. Available and standard options in the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 include automatic emergency braking, an auxiliary trailer camera, a bed view camera, a following distance indicator, forward collision alert with automatic front pedestrian braking, parking assist, lane change alert with blind-spot monitoring, lane keeping assist, rear cross-traffic alert, a safety seat alert, and the GM Teen Driver system.

While the 2021 Tundra offers many of the same features, it doesn’t offer the same caliber of trailer-assist features or the Teen Driver system that helps young and learning drivers engage in good driving habits.
