2021 Yukon vs. 2021 Expedition

Whenever you enter the market for a large SUV, it’s likely that space and safety are high on your list of priorities. The GMC Yukon has just been redesigned to offer more space than ever before, while the Ford Expedition challenges with its own comfortable arrangements. There’s more to the class than seating space, of course, so let’s compare the two SUVs to see which offers all the qualities and features you’re looking for.

Cabin Space

Although both vehicles belong to a high-passenger SUV class, only the Yukon comes standard with three rows. You’ll have to spring for a higher trim level if you want additional seating in the Expedition. The base model Yukon offers seating for eight, while the starting Expedition model only seats five. Both models offer plenty of space for their passengers, while the redesigned Yukon provides a refreshing level of room even in its back row. The Yukon also pulls ahead with a cavernous level of cargo space, providing a total of 122.9 cubic feet of stowing over the Expedition’s maximum of 104.6 cubic feet when their passenger rows are folded.

Ride and Handling

Members of the large SUV class aren’t known for nimble handling, but the GMC Yukon surpasses expectations with a relaxingly smooth ride. The Yukon is delightfully easy to maneuver despite its hefty proportions, and you’ll find it easy to steer whether you’re rising to merging speed on the highway or navigating a busy parking lot. The SUV also remains balanced whenever you round corners along winding pathways. On the other hand, the Expedition’s size doesn’t make for a particularly sporty drive, and some critics didn’t feel that its steering inspired any confidence while negotiating tight situations.

Technology

You’ll find modern infotainment systems onboard both vehicles, although the Yukon took several opportunities to pull ahead with its redesign. GMC has equipped their SUV with a larger standard touchscreen than their competitors’, and only the Yukon comes standard with HD Radio and satellite radio. You’ll have to pay extra to add these options to the Expedition. These SUVs also come stocked with a range of driver assistance and safety systems, but only the Yukon features the Teen Driver tool. This program allows you to hand your keys to a learning driver with confidence, as you can now set audio volume and speed limits whenever they’re behind the wheel.
