2023 GMC Sierra 1500 vs. 2023 Toyota Tundra in Hou

2023 GMC Sierra 1500 vs 2023 Toyota Tundra

Comparing certain full-size truck models, the winner often comes down to what the buyer/driver values. So when comparing the 2023 GMC Sierra and the 2023 Toyota Tundra, it’s important to take note of the key differences between these two trucks. How will you use them? How do trucks like these best suit your purpose? There are four key areas – customization, power and performance, off-roading, and fuel efficiency – where the 2023 GMC Sierra is clearly the better option than the Tundra. Let’s break it down.

Customization

The GMC Sierra 1500 may be the most customizable full-size pickup truck around, and you can work with a qualified, veteran sales staff here at Barker Buick GMC to find one that’s just the right fit for you. There are four different engine options that can be combined with multiple bed options, tailgates, and various cab options that will make your GMC Sierra 1500 unique. Whether you want to go off-roading or do work at the job site, the Sierra can be customized to do everything you need.

And speaking of customization, the Sierra’s Multi-Flex tailgate is one of the most innovative and useful pieces of technology ever put on a truck. Come talk to one of our sales staff members about the eight different configurations the Multi-Flex can form. The Multi-Flex can do everything from offering a helpful step into the back to a split tailgate to allow easier access to cargo, or – in a pinch – a work desk when you need it.

The Toyota Tundra’s customization level is much lower than the GMC Sierra 1500. That means you might get the crew cab you want – but not the size of truck bed or engine level that you want. And folks, we’re in the customer-pleasing business here at Barker Buick GMC. We want you to get exactly what you want and need.

Power and Performance

Each engine option for the GMC Sierra 1500 is useful for differing purposes, of course. The base engine is a turbocharged 2.7-liter 4-cylinder that produces 310 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, a 5.3-liter V8 that gives you 355 horsepower, and a 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8. Choose the Duramax turbo-diesel and you’ll get 460 lb-ft of torque. The 2023 Sierra can be equipped to tow up to 13,200 pounds, which is more than enough for most drivers.

At its top level, the Tundra can tow 12,000 pounds. That’s a real-world difference of 1,200 pounds. The GMC Sierra has power when you need it the most. And when it comes to payload, the Sierra hauls 2,240 pounds when properly equipped, while the Tundra can move 1,940 pounds in its pickup bed.

Advantage: The GMC Sierra 1500

Off-Road

Here is where the gap really widens: the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 has an advantage in off-roading with its new AT4X trim. This elite, durable trim level is designed to attack the wilderness and allow you to carve your own trail well off the beaten path. The AT4X version of the GMC Sierra adapts to whatever you throw at it when it comes to climbing hilly terrain or navigating rough ground. To protect the underside of the front end, GMC equipped the AT4X AEV with steel skid plates to cover the steering components, transfer case, rear differential, and fuel tank. There are recovery points on the rear bumpers, steel bumpers up front, and a winch up front as well. And it does all of this while keeping you comfortable in the cabin.

The Tundra The 2022 Tundra has four-wheel drive and a locking rear differential, but these are both turned on manually, as opposed to the Sierra 1500, which uses them automatically. The Tundra also has slightly smaller tires and a slightly shorter lift. That means the Sierra has better ground clearance, which absolutely matters when you’re going off-road.
