A LOOK AT THE 2022 BUICK ENCORE
2022 brought a few upgrades to the Encore, the subcompact SUV from Buick. For starters, the engine makes 17 more horsepower for a total of 155. Another welcome change is the simplification of the lineup. Instead of a Base and Preferred model, drivers now have one choice of trim level. You still get to decide between front- or all-wheel drive. Other simple quality-of-life changes include seatback pockets on the front row and an electric heater. The Buick Encore is currently in its second generation, and with little to improve on, Buick chose to improve the small things for 2022.
HISTORY OF THE BUICK ENCORE
The Buick Encore was launched into the North American market in 2013. Buick was ahead of the curve with the introduction of this model, as they correctly predicted that the market for smaller premium crossover vehicles would soon increase. Having said that, even Buick couldn’t have anticipated just how hot the crossover vehicle market would become in the coming years. The Encore’s original trim levels included a base package, convenience, leather and a high end premium package. The engine was a turbocharged 1.4 liter power plant that delivered 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft torque. Initial public reaction to the introduction of the Buick Encore could be best described as “warm,” but in the ensuing years as more buyers became familiar with the vehicle, sales began to rapidly increase. Buick put an emphasis on increasing tech options in the 2014 and 2015 models of the Encore. It became one of the first vehicles on the market to be integrated with Apple’s Siri® feature and integrated wireless technology. In 2016, Encore sales took off like a rocket with the public desire for crossover SUVs beginning to hit an all-time high. By 2017, Buick released a significantly refreshed version of the Encore into the market. This version sold very well and continues to be one of the best sellers in its segment to the present day.
